| Important information: Helpful tree moving tips and criteria. |
| If you have a tree(s) that you wish to relocate, several conditions need to be checked to see if it is practical to pursue moving the tree. Please evaluate each one to be fully familiar with the requirements. 1. Measure the diameter (circumference/3.14) of the trunk 6" above the base to determine tree spade size. Trees over 12" diameter can not be moved. o Medium size trees up to 6" use - 55" spade on single axle truck o Large trees up to 12" use - 90" spade on tandem axle truck 2. Have your underground utilities located to ensure that it is safe to dig. Listed below are numbers to contact for help in locating all utilities. If the utilities are within 3 feet of the digging area it is not safe to dig unless the cables have been exposed by hand. Trees growing directly over the utility area can not be moved. Dig Line (www.digline.com) 1-800-342-1585 Idaho Falls Power/Water 208 529-1250 All utilities including power, gas, cable, water, septic sewer, phone, sprinkler etc must be located before tree relocation. It is your responsibility to locate all utilities. Let the utility company know what you are planning to do. The cost to locate lines is your responsibility. You may have to make a special request to meet with the utility locators. Water and sewer facility owners will only locate up to their meters next to the road right-of-way. It is your individual responsibility to contact a private locator to have the water or sewer service line from your meter to your home located. These service lines are installed by the contractor or his agents and are the property of the homeowner. Idaho code requires utilities be notified no less than 2 business days and no more than 10 business days from the planned excavation date. Any damage incurred from contact with utilities is the homeowners responsibility. 3. Check access requirements. Is there enough space to access the tree and the planting location? Generally, trees planted within 6 ft of a building also cannot be moved. Consider fences, landscaping, overhead power lines, etc. 4. Are conditions favorable to proceed? (eg. Rocks, hardpan, grade, old foundations, wetness, season, etc.) We require up to 5 ft depth for the 90" spade. If we are not able to dig successfully our minimum bill will be 1 hour or the cost of travel time to and from the job site which ever is greater. 5. You must be aware that our heavy equipment may leave some indents or ruts on your lawn. We are not responsible for any damages. 6. Preparations include pre-watering the tree (only under the umbrella of the tree) when practical (especially large evergreens during dry spells) is the key to a successful move. Having a water source available is very helpful. It is prudent to evaluate and mark the re-location point of the tree. Please remove all lawn obstacles etc. from the area, and move any vehicles that may interfere with the equipment. 7. Following the relocation of the tree(s) here are some beneficial pointers for you as the owner to improve the chances of success but are not provided as part of the tree moving service unless requested for an additional charge. Place a soil ring or well around the circumference at the seam left by the tree spade. This should help eliminate air pockets, and to mulch the root ball area with wood chips etc. Staking the tree is optional after it has been moved but is recommended due to the high winds common to Idaho. This is not included with the price quoted but is available at an additional cost. Little or no fertilizer is best. The bare roots may be damaged by the chemicals. Do not drown the tree, over watering can do more damage than good. Ask your local nursery, they love to talk. 8. Any damage incurred from contact with utilities, cracked sidewalks or driveways, fences or landscaping, rutted lawn etc. are the responsibility of the Homeowner. If we are not able to dig successfully our minimum bill will be 1 hour or the cost of travel time to and from the job site which ever is greater. All payment for work is done on a C O D basis unless arranged for in advance. |
